Rich, but not overly sweet. Incredibly moist – a dessert that will melt in your mouth and have you coming back for me. Delicious on its own or can be served with whipped cream, ice cream, or fruit compote.

Ingredients
3 c. sugar ½ c. shortening 1 stick butter 5 eggs 3 c. all-purpose flour, un-sifted | ½ tsp. baking powder dissolved in 1 tbsp. boiling water 1 c. buttermilk ½ tsp. salt 2 tsp. vanilla |
Directions
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
- Cream together butter, shortening, and sugar.
- Add eggs and beat well.
- Combine salt and flour.
- Add flour mixture alternatively to creamed mixture with buttermilk and soda mixture.
- Beat well and blend in vanilla.
- Pour into greased 10” square stem pan.
- Bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done.
